Many people have this notion that working at home gives you the freedom to do what you want to do when you want it and wherever you want to do it. It probably is one of the reasons why being a WAHWM is such a promising dream for some.
Being at home gives you the flexibility when it comes to your time because you don’t need to punch that time clock, be in an office for eight hours or more and waste time traveling to and from your workplace. However, it is still important to set a schedule or at least account for the time you spend in your home-based business.
Why do you still need a schedule even though you’re a work at home wife and mother?
First, when you have a schedule, it will be easier for you to prioritize and concentrate your time and effort on higher priority tasks and projects. It’s so easy to waste time doing non-priority tasks. With a schedule (or a To-Do list), you’ll know what to do first and how long it will take you to do it. A schedule also prevents you from being distracted or sidetracked from your current task.
Another reason why you need to have a schedule as a work at home wife and mother is to differentiate between your free time and your work time. It’s so easy to forget that you still need to have some free time when you work at home. You tend to forget how much hours you spend at work because you are at the comfort of your own home. Just like a career outside home, when we are too engrossed in our home-business or career as a WAHWM, our relationship with our spouses and children become affected. And we also tend to forget to have our own free time or downtime to unwind.
Having a schedule is important to WAHWMs. The good thing with it is that you’re the one setting it so you can schedule yourself off for a 3-hour lunch, have four-day weekends or start your day early or late.
Do you agree?
