How to Save Money When Shopping For Your Kids School Clothes

Since school season is just right around the corner and summer is slowly coming to a close, that means it’s time for some online shopping and hoards of Back-to-School sales being waved in your face. It’s nothing new that kids get a few new outfits for the school year. For starters, kids grow like weeds, so they’re most likely already getting too big for their current clothes. Not to mention the fact that kids are messy, so chances are, their current and older clothes are riddled with stains from eating, coloring, and painting.

Plus, clothes are one of the best ways to boast new beginnings, and it’s the new school year for your kids, after all. With that said, clothes are expensive; something that fits a child is going to be just as expensive if not more expensive than clothing that’s for adults. Plus, having to buy several outfits can really add up the price. So, here’s how you can save some money when you’re shopping for your kid’s school clothes!

It’s All About the Sales

This is honestly the easy part, around late July and all through the month of August, there are going to be plenty of sales for kids, from school clothes to school supplies, and this goes for students who are going to college too. With that said, you can usually check both online and in-store for sales. Shop the clearance racks of retail stores, and look for online sales as well. Also, consider attending periodic sale events sponsored by local churches and schools.

These events often offer high-quality clothing for kids at very reasonable prices. Before you head to the store, do a wardrobe inventory and check your child’s closet and drawers for shirts that don’t fit or pants that no longer match. But be sure to also look into checking out the online sale section of a retailer’s website. Old Navy, Kohl’s, and Target are a few to look for. They have a variety of uniform separates and clothing basics at incredibly low prices. Ideally, let your little one pick out some of these outfits since they will be the ones who’ll be wearing them.

Embrace Yard Sales

Yard sales and flea markets are the two best places in the summer to do some of your shopping at. People are moving and clearing out their belongings, and that goes for children’s clothes too. For the most part, yard sales tend to end around early August, but you can technically get a head start on buying your kid’s clothes just by going to yard sales on weekends. Some are posted online; other times, you’ll see signs; even on websites like Craigslist and the Neighborhood app, you’re going to find some. Honestly, second-hand is far more sustainable, and you’d be surprised at some of the incredible clothes and items you can get.

You Can Never Go Wrong with Second Hand Shops

Thrifting is in, and while many kids used to dread the idea of second-hand clothes, it does seem to be embraced now, thanks to the awareness of sustainability. Plus, it helps that a lot of influencers are bragging about thrift shops too. Shop second-hand stores such as Goodwill and thrift shops to save money. Items in these places are typically checked over and in better-than-new condition (no crusty lumps of food or worrying brown stains).

This is especially helpful for clothes that kids wear daily and endure a lot of wear and tear, such as shoes, coats, backpacks, and jeans. It also pays to browse Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist for local families selling their children’s clothing. This will often result in finding the right size and style at a great price. Generally speaking, it’s still important to let your little one have a say in all of it too.
