There is nothing nice about the topic of death. Death is all about grief, loss, and sadness, and it’s why most of us avoid talking about it. The thing is, without a little conversation, your friends and loved ones aren’t going to know what you want for your death. You only have a limited amount of time to discuss things like these with your people in your life, so you need to make on while you can.
The trouble is that planning your funeral isn’t the easiest thing to do. It’s not obsessive to want to discuss your death and the type of ceramic cremation urns you may want. You may need some help, some tips to help you to manage the conversation, though, and we have a few tips for you below!
- Get to know what’s involved in funeral planning. You have the choice to plan your funeral yourself, or you can leave it in the hands of an expert to plan it all for you based on what you want the most. You can’t plan a funeral without knowing what happens during one, and even if you have been to a few, you still need to learn what’s typical and what’s unique about them.
- Plan, by all means, but don’t pay in advance. It’s not uncommon for funeral companies to go bust, and if you pay for your funeral in advance, there is every chance you could lose your money. The good news is that you can plan your funeral years in advance and have it all written down and notarized so that your friends and family carry out your wishes.
- Get to know the costs of a funeral. Do you want a burial or do you want cremation? Do you want a plaque or a headstone? Do you want to be celebrated or do you want to be let go quietly? All of these decisions are in your hands. Once you know the costs, you can go ahead and ensure that you have the funeral that you want.
- Do some research into the costs for your funeral and everything surrounding your death. When you research the funeral costs and the companies that are involved in holding and planning funerals, you can get a good idea of what you may be dealing with. Prices aren’t always easy to get out of funeral companies, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t ask!
- Let everyone around you know what you want. You can write it down and you can plan it in advance, but you must open the discussion and ensure that the people in your life whom you love the most will listen to you about what you want.
Communication is key when it comes to funeral planning; don’t let it fall by the wayside in your quest to keep people shielded from the worry of death. Your funeral is as important as any other event in your life – don’t forget that!
