Commercial gyms can be great places to go for a workout. They have lots of different equipment to use, allows you access to various weights, and there are personal trainers/gym instructors nearby to provide advice. However, they can also be very difficult environments to enter when you are less confident about yourself. You can easily get intimidated when you are just trying to get fit, which ends up discouraging you from going.
In turn, you have a bad cycle where you’re not self-confident enough to go to the gym, so you stop working out. This shouldn’t be the case, and you shouldn’t feel like you can’t go to the gym. While it is normal to feel this way, here are three ideas to help you feel more confident in commercial gym settings:
1. Educate yourself at home
Some of you aren’t confident because you don’t know what you’re doing. You see the gym instructors and personal trainers lurking like vultures waiting to jump in and tell you you’re doing something wrong. This is bad enough, but it’s even worse when it’s a fellow gym member. To counter this, start watching videos or doing research at home, maybe even practicing at home too. Home workouts are a great way to bridge the gap and get you ready for the gym environment. Now, you can go there with more confidence in yourself as you know what you’re doing.
2. Wear flattering outfits
The clothes you wear to a gym can do wonders for your confidence. It can sometimes feel like people are staring at you, but the way to approach this is to not to care at all. It’s time to appreciate your own body and love yourself! Wear gym gear that lets you be empowered and flatters your curves and figure. You want to look in the mirror and feel on top of the world – it’ll make you so confident every time you’re in the gym. Funnily enough, when a confident person displays himself or herself like this, it can actually make a lot of people intimidated. Suddenly, you won’t have people coming up to you or pestering you anymore!
3. Go to a men-only or women-only gym
When you are conscious of the opposite sex, then going to a men-only or women-only gym is a simple way to feel more confident and comfortable in a commercial gym setting. It lets you enjoy the benefits of a gym – equipment, weights, training advice – but without the negatives. You’ll feel more comfortable or much safer, and it can be all-around more enjoyable. When you enjoy yourself in the gym, you are far more likely to keep going over and over again.
Finding your confidence is the key to unlocking your fitness potential and improving your health. When you’re confident, you are more likely to be motivated. Thus, you stick to a schedule and can work out regularly!
