1. Decide on your blog theme, name and platform
The first thing you will need to do is decide on a theme for your blog. What will you be blogging about? You need to get the balance right here so that it is something you are knowledgeable and passionate about , along with it being potentially financially viable.
Once you have decided on the theme, you need to come up with a name. Check that the domain is available before committing to it, and it is also worth checking the social media handles are available too.
You can then buy your domain and choose a platform to blog from. Many bloggers opt for WordPress, and if this is your choice, it is worth getting the self-hosted version. It will cost you to do this rather than the free version, but will be a better option if you want to make a business out of your blog.
2. Create content
This is the fun part! Now that you have created your blog, you need to start filling it with content. It is worth having at least half a dozen blog posts up and live before you start promoting it so that you will have enough content for new and curious visitors to read.
You then want to get this content in front of an audience. The only way you will be able to earn from your blog is through building your readership and following so, this is key.
Set up social media accounts and promote your content. Interact with others, chat to bloggers, tell your friends, share, share and share some more!
3. Use the resources available
There are so many possibilities here for bloggers. Many of them are free resources, and you could easily spend days and weeks reading guides from other bloggers either on their blogs or by searching on sites like Pinterest. Soak up the tips and advice and adopt the processes that you feel will work for you.
There are also hundreds of social media communities for bloggers, so take to Twitter and look for hashtags or search for relevant Facebook groups. These can be great places for asking specific questions or getting a feel for the blogging community.
There will then come a time when you might want to invest some of your income in resources and tools to boost your blog and lighten your workload.
